This is a composite black-and-white photograph of the atmosphere of the student demonstrations at Sapienza University in Rome after the pointless murder of a student, Ilaria Sula. The photograph depicts a wave of demonstrators outside the Rectorate, the symbolic center of the university, where the fences were pulled down to make the space once again a space of collective resistance. At its essence, the Minerva statue, historically the icon of Sapienza, is now inscribed with the trans-feminist sign β€” a powerful message that transformed the monument into a protector of women's dignity and security. The photograph seizes a moment of solidarity, outrage, and solidarity, in which students were not just coming together to grieve, but to call for actual protection and safe spaces for women from the university authorities and from the state.
